Long dark car drive through the night, God-long way to go. The moon hath hid, the sky alight, For miles you’ve been alone. On this bend, on this stretch, a wicked wind did blow. Long dark car drive through the night, Will you make it home? Hold on tight! Long dark car drive through the night, Will you make it home? The moon hath hid, the sky alight, And now you’re not alone. From the black, a head of light, A phantom rear and close. Long dark car drive through the night, Never made it home. Hold on tight! Long dark car drive through the night.

Black Magic 03:21
Black magic in your eyes, Dark manners in disguise, Black dreams of you and I, Dead fantasies alive, Bending me to your will, haunting me for the thrill, Dark magic deep inside, The black magic deep inside. Indeed! Sister, I'll give you what you want, what you need. Dark beams of inner light distort the moonlit night, Circles of salt deny, The creatures you cannot hide, The keys to another world, Oh please let my life return, The dark magic deep inside, The black magic deep inside. Indeed! Sister, I'll give you what you want, what you need.

Lost in space where he can't be seen, Lives an ancient dream. And he came like a tidal wave, On the shore, up the land, Through the air, Through the cities, And he knows where I am, Always to be. And he looks, And he says to me, "Haunted is all I see." Then I shook, Something ran through me, Something took, took ahold, Crawled inside, took ahold of me. And he knows what I am, Always to be, Lonely little helpless thing, standing in the dark, Have you loved the light from distant stars? Lonely little helpless thing, standing in the dark, Have you loved the light from distant stars? Lonely little helpless thing, standing in the dark, Have you loved the light from distant stars?

A hell-made storm is on its way, A man-made form its power takes. Oh, you’re terrible, you’re terrible today. Oh, your stare is full of dead men and decay. "It's alive!" oh, he cried. He cried "Oh, it's alive!" Heavy thumps outside your door, Ghostly steps upon your floor, You know who waits for you has waited for this day, And oh, who waits for you will take you far away. "It's alive!" oh, he cried. He cried "Oh, it's alive!"

The Strain 05:13
The strain is always there to find. It came when we drew the lines, A force from another time, That preys always on our lives. The strain’s never gone for long. It calls like a siren’s song, And breaks men who hear her call, And stands them against a wall. Better run when bloody murder's on the way. The strain’s down a winter road, That drove men into the cold, And warm days were left behind. The strain’s always there to find. Better run when bloody murder is on the way.

Vampyre 02:53
How strange the light when night fall comes, It frees the mind and cruels the blood. (Vampyre) He stays forever. (Vampyre) You’ll be his pleasure. (Vampyre) I’ll die or sever. (Vampyre) (I’ll leave but my blood’s in you). You’re so alive, I feel your will. You come in dreams and drain your fill. (Vampyre) He stays forever. (Vampyre) You’ll be his pleasure. (Vampyre) I’ll die or sever. (Vampyre) (I’ll leave but my blood’s in you).

Graverobbers 03:42
Fingers numb, Death has come tonight. Empty some, Others hide from sight. Bodies deep, Secrets keep. How we want, How we make all our money robbing graves. Lift this one, Feel the body slide. Golden rings bring my heart delight. Bodies deep, Care if we... How we want, How we make all our money robbing graves. How we want, How we make all our money robbing graves.
8.
Demons 02:45
Let them in and you'll rue the day, They creeped inside. With demons you lay. I'm not letting my demons escape. I'm not letting my demons get away. Break a spell and a new one is cast. Live in hell where your future's fading fast. I'm not letting my demons escape. I'm not letting my demons get away. Let them in. Let them in. Let them in. Let them in. I'm not letting my demons escape. I'm not letting my demons get away.

With your heart all full of flame and your night sky on the wane, When the morning breaks the day on the darker side of town, Where the drugs can drag you down and the gold ain't layin’ around, And a fall would save you now, yeah a fall would save you now. Nobody cares what happens E.O.A., 'Cuz no one sees you east of Adelaide. With your heart all full of flame set on fire by solar rays, And your mind so full of rage when you think it’s all a loss, And you think what it has cost - your arm and your age, But your heart’s a solar flame. Nobody cares what happens E.O.A., 'Cuz no one sees you east of Adelaide. With your hearts all full of flame and your “nice-guy” gone away, And your mind so full of rage but your heart is so afraid, Yeah, your heart is so afraid. Nobody cares what happens E.O.A., 'Cuz no one sees you east of Adelaide.

Inside of me, a monstrous mind, It makes me mad and so unkind. You’ll see my smile, And you’ll see my eyes, Three empty half-moons without a sky. Give back my brain to my body, Destroy the darkness I know, Give back the mind that has let me go. Heaven or hell? A trick or treat? While people watch me in the street. I’ll make a scene and I’ll scream and shout, And I want to see your teeth fall out. Give back my brain to my body, Destroy the darkness I know, Give back the mind that has let me go.

Ghosts 11:55
I’ll let you in on a secret, love. Now, where to begin what I’m thinking of? These ghosts of mine are all wanting some scraps of time, But they’ll get none. These lifeless limbs that weigh me down, These bare-bone shins and grimy gown, These deafened ears that don’t know sound, And empty eyes that creep around. Hey, you're fading away. Life ends too soon in a silent squeal, And graveyard blues have no appeal. They’ll pull you in and make you feel, That truth is a lie and the lie is real. Hey, you're fading away.

about

This is a re-mastered version of The Pleasurists first album Ghostly Steps. The album represents a fascination with the dark side of human existence. It is a celebration of the profane and an exploration of the malignant motives in life. It is good fun.

The song by song account:

Long Dark Car - Ever been driving late at night on lonely stretches of road when suddenly, out of nowhere, a car appears behind you? Happened to us in Florida one night and become a very menacing situation.

Black Magic - Sometimes love can be a little like having some black magic performed on you because the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Alive, He Cried - A vignette based on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. We create our own monsters everyday don't we? They may not walk around and be made of assembled corpses but we breathe life into some very bad things and are horrified when they consume us.

Demons - We all have 'em. Some of us acknowledge them, some of us ignore them, some of us give into them, and some of us fight them. Some of us do all of these things. What about making peace with them?

Vampyre - A vignette about the living dead that we all love. But in this song, we're talking about vampyres that are truly repulsive monsters. They feed on their victims in dreams and don't have romantic encounters or go to high school or battle werewolves. The vampires of today have nothing on the vampyres of old.

Graverobbers - A comment on how our culture is becoming increasingly tolerant of letting robbery happen on all levels - whether it be the bank and the government finding more and more ways to take your money, or how pop music has not generated anything new in decades and has succeeded only by feasting on the remains of the past, or the way that graverobbers literally thieve from the dead. Also inspired by a friend of mine who went to Costa Rica and became involved with a gang of graverobbers.

Distant Stars - Inspired by a sensitive friend of mine who asked me if I was haunted. He detected some kind of presence around me. It did make me wonder and kinda freaked me out because I knew on some level what he was talking about. To me, one of the most comforting things is the light from stars; the eternity of light that shines on a clear dark night.

East of Adelaide - In our city, the bad side of town is referred to as "E.O.A." Adelaide is the street that divides the town into east and west. E.O.A. conjures to mind all the bad places and people that exist in our city. Except they're not bad places or bad people. We all have different challenges in life and to pity, ignore and ridicule others because of where they live is far from evolved. This song is about what happens when frustration and anger grow into a way of life.

Brain To My Body - A song about the decision to close down a psychiatric hospital in our city. Many mental patients who really couldn't care for themselves were released and left to fend for themselves.

The Strain - A song that is about the historic and famous Donnelly massacre that happened north of our city. A fascinating story and if you are not familiar with it you should look it up. A song about how hatred and violence traveled from Ireland to the new world and grew into more terror and violence. The strain of living with evil deeds eventually leads to more evil deeds. Title is taken from Guillermo Del Toro's vampire novel of the same name.

Ghosts - Living at a cemetary creates a certain mood. This song is an ode to our closest neighbours.
